SUSPICIOUS NEIGHBORS COMPLAINT LEADS TO DRUG BUST
On Wednesday Nov. 3rd beginning around 5:00 p.m. police arrested two men and executed a search warrant on a home on E. Bennett in Ferndale. The arrests were made as a result of an investigation started by neighbors tips that they believed drugs were being sold out of the Bennett house. After receiving information from citizens, NET (Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team) conducted an investigation which led them to believe drug activity was actually taking place in the home. Earlier in the evening, before the Southeast Oakland SWAT team assisted by executing the search warrant on the home police arrested two suspects in the drug operation on separate traffic stops. One of the suspects was stopped near his home and offered no resistance. Another suspect, driving a Blazer, refused to stop and lead police on a high speed chase that went into the City of Detroit. That suspect eventually abandoned his vehicle and attempted to run from police on foot. He was caught and arrested in a backyard in the area of State Fair / Dequinder. Officers recovered $24,000 from his vehicle.
At the home, officers recovered more cash and approximately 10 oz. of cocaine with an estimated street value of over $10,000
The matter is being investigated by NET, and will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for a determination on charges.
1.) Sheppard, Isacc, b/m, 30 Delivery/Manufacturer 20 year felony, & Fleeing & Eluding 3rd degree 5 year felony
2.) Broadnax, Larry, b/m, 30 Delivery/Manufacturer 20 year felony
They should be arraigned today at about 2:30 pm. I will be gone, but for arraignment information you can contact the Court (248-547-8700)
Citizen involvement and calls to police whenever they suspect criminal activity continues to be a critical tool to help police address problems in the City. Neighbors are encouraged to phone whenever they witness suspicious behavior of any type. If people are not sure whether a crime is in fact taking place, they should still immediately phone the police and let the officers investigate.
MAN STEALS JACKET FROM DIABLOS
The weekend was fairly uneventful.
Our officers did arrest 34 year old Ferndale resident, LAPOINTE, DREW MICHAEL for stealing another man’s jacket and contents from Diablo’s restaurant / bar. The victim hung his coat on a bar stool. When he went to leave, he could not find his jacket and asked the management of the restaurant about it. They viewed the security tapes and saw the suspect conceal the jacket under his own coat, and then take it from the building.
Police tracked the suspect to his home by obtaining credit card information he used to pay his tab.
The man initially denied taking the jacket, but eventually admitted that he took it. He then led officers to where he hid the jacket.
The suspect in this case has no criminal history. Lapointe was charged with Larceny and given a $500 personal bond.
