Sarah Parmelee, Ferndale Library Trustee, Resigns and Relocates

Sarah Parmelee, Ferndale Library Board Trustee and the board secretary, has submitted her resignation to the board, effective October 28, 2010.  Ms. Parmelee and her family are relocating to Huntington Woods.  The board’s bylaws require trustees to be Ferndale residents.

“I have very much enjoyed serving the community of Ferndale as a Library Board Member these past 5 years.  I am especially proud to have been a part of the revitalization of the Library, central to which was the Library renovation and expansion project.  Although I will no longer be able to be a part of the Board due to my upcoming move from Ferndale, I look forward to seeing the Ferndale Public Library continue to grow as a community educational resource,” said Ms. Parmelee.

“Sarah has been on the board since the library became an independent entity in 2005.  She and her husband have volunteered on boards and committees and have given much time and energy to our community.  This is not just a loss for the library board, but for Ferndale,” said Ann Warner, President of the Board.  “We are sorry to see Sarah go and wish her and her family well.”

The Library Board will appoint an interim successor to serve until the next general election.

Persons interested in being appointed to fill the seat should send a resume or letter outlining their qualifications and stating why they wish to serve on the board.  Letters should be addressed to the Ferndale Library Board and may be sent via email to ferndale.libboard@gmail.com or may be mailed to or dropped off at the library at 222 E. Nine Mile Road, Ferndale, Michigan 48220.

The deadline for applying is Friday, November 12, 2010.  Applicants will be interviewed at a Special Meeting of the Board to which they will be invited via an e-mail or letter from the board.   The successful applicant will be required to run in the November 2011 election if they wish to fill out the remainder of Ms. Parmelee’s term, which expires in November 2015.
