Ferndale Library Board Fills Open Seat
The Ferndale Library Board has unanimously selected Darlene Johnson-Bignotti, a former library trustee, to replace Mary Ann Neal, who recently resigned after serving for 18 years. Ms. Johnson-Bignotti will serve until November 2011, when the seat will be on the ballot so the voters can determine who will serve out the rest of Ms. Neal’s term, which ends in November 2013.
Ms. Johnson-Bignotti issued the following statement: “I’m excited the Board has afforded me an opportunity to finish what I started. The library has grown by leaps and bounds since I became a volunteer ten years ago, much in part thanks to Mary Ann Neal’s selfless vision and tireless work ethic. No one can truly fill Mary Ann’s shoes, but between my professional and prior Trustee experience I can readily jump back in with both feet and hit the ground running. You could call me the “Green Trustee”- recycled, renewed, and still very useful.”
Johnson-Bignotti is on the Library Faculty at Oakland County Community College. She is a long-time Ferndale resident.
The board interviewed three applicants at a special meeting on October 4, 2010 and made its selection following the interviews. “We welcome Darlene back to the board, though she is returning to a very different board from the one she left a few years ago. I think she will enjoy working with the current board members and we all look forward to working with her,” said Ann Warner, President of the Library Board.
Ms. Johnson-Bignotti will be sworn in by the city clerk as soon as possible and will officially join the board at its October 28, 2010 monthly meeting.
