Monitor Landscapes: Sengbusch’s Lemberg Opening

(Crystal A. Proxmire)

To artist Mark Sengbusch “painting is a lens we view life through.”  That’s why his work, currently on display at The Lemberg Gallery (23241 Woodward) is primarily reverse painting on Plexiglass.

“Some of it is pattern based, and some of it is landscape,” Sengbusch said.  “But its all seen through a perspective where scale isn’t identifiable.  It’s like everything is in limbo – a weightless world.”

Sengbusch is a native New Yorker who moved to Detroit in 1997 to attend the College for Creative Studies.  He earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Cranbrook in 2008.  He was also co-owner and director of Detroit’s 101up Gallery from 2005-2006.

“Monitor Landscapes” opened Oct. 1, 2010 at Lemberg Gallery, and was also featured as part of the Art Detroit Now’s North Woodward Gallery Crawl the following day.  The paintings, which vary in size and shape, were inspired by computer consoles where “visions of other worlds are stripped of information to simplify form or enhanced by adding layers of detail around areas of interest.”Just 4 Us
