Trading Time with Time for Ferndale TimeBank

(Darlene Berger)community health acupuncture

The Ferndale TimeBank has been busy signing up new members and banking hours that can be traded for some exciting new offers for services! Monthly meetings continue, and a Lunch and Learn session is planned for November 20th.

Members recently earned 70 hours working at the DIY Street Fair by coordinating a staff of people to run the information booth, help DIY vendors secure their tents, and cleaning up afterwards. TimeBank members who spend time helping other member organizations that sponsor community events like these get to trade the hours earned for other TimeBank-offered services.

A few of the many service offers now available from the Ferndale TimeBank’s 33 members include knitting lessons, felting, clothing alterations, vegan cooking lessons, tips on cloth diapering, window and screen repair, locksmithing, adult and child care, and violin lessons.modern tax

Several members of the Ferndale TimeBank have posted knitting-related offers and requests for instruction, so a knitting club may be in the works soon. No skill is necessary, the club would be a social/learning occasion with the opportunity to perhaps make some holiday gifts!

The TimeBank is planning a Lunch and Learn session on Saturday November 20th from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at the Kulick Center, 1201 Livernois St. TimeBank members will explain how the TimeBank works while attendees enjoy light snacks followed by a question and answer session. Attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for membership, $30 per individual, $50 for a family membership per year. Checks and cash are accepted. Individuals interested in attending are asked to RSVP to 248-812-9382.

The Ferndale TimeBank has also been holding regularly scheduled meetings of its “Kitchen Cabinet,” a group of key individuals who organize the TimeBank and determine its rules of operation as well as work to find ways to promote the TimeBank so it can grow to offer more services and increase its value for members as well as for our community.  TimeBank members and nonmembers alike are welcome to attend and participate in the Kitchen Cabinet meetings and are encouraged to serve in the Kitchen Cabinet in one of several open positions available.

Ferndalians who have a couple spare hours a week and would like to join the Ferndale TimeBank as an Event Coordinator, Webmaster, Media Relations Coordinator, Administrator, or Outreach Coordinator, please send email to info@ferndaletimebank.org.  This can be a great way to beef up your resume with some experience if you’re looking for work. If you aren’t interested in a position but still want to become a member, please visit www.ferndaletimebank.org and click on the “sign up” link to join.
