A Tribute to School Food

The food revolution is on in Ferndale Schools. When Coolidge and JFK Schools got slushees in the cafeteria last week, few knew that the ever-changing sweet treat is really made from 100% fruit. Other changes have been made over the past few months which have been subtly introducing more and more healthy food into the breakfast and lunch of students in the district.

Tools of the Trade in the Ferndale Fire Department

When Dennis Warrilow began working at the Ferndale Fire Department nearly 25 years ago, some of the equipment for rescuing people and putting out fires was not as advanced as it is today. But yet, many of the tools of the firefighter’s trade are basics that have saved lives for over a hundred years. At the FPD they use a combination of old school gear, new technology, manpower and a whole lot of water to keep homes and people safe.

Book Clubs Abound in Ferndale

While the Library’s ‘Tween Book Club and The Science Fiction Book Club have taken a temporary break, community book discussion continues. Book Parties at the Emory, a regular extra-library activity, is back on Thursday, Jan. 20. There is also the Nerdy Book Club at Detroit Comics on Jan. 21.And a new tradition is forming with the emergence of the GLBT Book Club which will meet at Como’s on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
