The Ferndale Public Library is getting back to its roots by doing what they do best. Promoting reading! This March, the library is putting on a month-long program of events that will be centered around a favorite book among the staff: John Connolly’s The Book of Lost Things.

The Ferndale Public Library will welcome its first international best-selling author as a keynote speaker the evening of March 29, 2011, when Irish author, John Connolly, will come to discuss his book, The Book of Lost Things.

Ferndale Public Library Director Doug Raber is stepping down so that he and his wife Jessica can move out of Michigan for other employment, according to a press release from Library Board President Ann Warner.

While the Library’s ‘Tween Book Club and The Science Fiction Book Club have taken a temporary break, community book discussion continues. Book Parties at the Emory, a regular extra-library activity, is back on Thursday, Jan. 20. There is also the Nerdy Book Club at Detroit Comics on Jan. 21.And a new tradition is forming with the emergence of the GLBT Book Club which will meet at Como’s on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Sarah Parmelee, Ferndale Library Board Trustee and the board secretary, has submitted her resignation to the board, effective October 28, 2010. Ms. Parmelee and her family are relocating to Huntington Woods. The board’s bylaws require trustees to be Ferndale residents.

The Ferndale Seniors held a Taste Fest fundraiser at the Ferndale Public Library on Oct.27, 2010 to celebrate the release of their new Senior Cook Book. There were tables of food and a chance to talk about the recipes provided by Ferndale’s most active elders.

October 27, 2010 is a big one for The Ferndale Seniors. First they’ll be getting a visit from Mayor Craig Covey, at the annual Senior Town Hall Meeting at 11am at the Kulick Center (1201 Livernois).
