OC Commissioners to Introduce “No Kill” Resolutions for Shelter

The first resolution would have the Oakland County Animal Shelter save all healthy and treatable homeless cats and dogs by the end of 2014.
The second resolution would require the shelter to post monthly statistics on the county website showing what happened to the cats and dogs that entered the shelter – adopted, returned to owner, euthanized.
The third resolution would require the shelter to first offer an animal to a rescue organization before they euthanize it.

Residents Push for Better Animal Control

Since September a group of Oakland County residents has been coming to the Oakland County Commission meetings and speaking about changes they would like to see in the Animal Control Program. The core group is called Oakland Pet Advocates (OPA) and their goal is to increase rates of return to owner and adoptions, and to decrease the rates of euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.

Fido Does Ferndale 2012 (video)

Fido Does Ferndale took place on Thursday in Downtown Ferndale. The event kicked off with a musical set by local musician Ryan Dillaha, who was happy to hear the doggies singing along. Then Councilperson Dan Martin and Jerome Raska introduced the event and helped corral the dogs and their leash-holders into formation for the Pooch Parade.

Fourth Graders’ Charity Makes it Big Time…

…The girls were also invited by organizer Dean Bach to set up a table and sell dog toys that they had made to raise money for K9 Club Cares. There were multi-colored chew toys made of fleece, and ceramic dogs tags available. Over 100 items were sold during the four-hour event. They expected sales to be $200, but a generous anonymous donor made their till double by the end of the day…

It all started with one man wanting to do something good.

David Rosentrater of University of Phoenix found Waggs and Wishes and Angie Potter on Facebook and decided that is the organization he was going to help out. He teamed up with Neil Hunter, another Enrollment Counselor at University or Phoenix, and came up with a contest that would net Waggs and Wishes the haul of a lifetime!
