The Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit is ready to move forward with the appointment of Interim Pastor Rev. Jim Lynch. Dino’s Restaurant & Lounge, located at 22740 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale, Michigan, will park their catering truck in front of the restaurant in attempt to fill it with new or gently used coats sized (boys and girls) small-XXL, to replace 500 coats that were destroyed when water came through a damaged roof and settled on this year’s supply of coats that were slated to be given to children who are housed at Oakland County Children’s Village shelter “Mandy’s Place.”
Judy Lewis of the Jewish Gay Network has a vision of unity in the LGBT community. She and representatives of over 30 organizations hosted a large Coming Out for Equality Event on Oct 11 at Level One Bank in Ferndale.

The class is offered each week, and it introduces attendees to the most popular social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn, and You Tube. It also explains blogging, and how using a combination of blogs and social media one can position themselves as a valued employee in any field.
The second annual Transgender Health Fair educated attendees about hormones, safe sex, gender reconstruction surgeries, counseling, laser hair removal, prescription drug coverage and supportive organizations. Transgender Michigan hosted the event, filling Affirmations’ front gallery with rows of informational booths, seminars and forums. More than 100 attended.
Organized by Transgender Michigan, the event is large but simple. They brought in the burgers and dogs while guest brought a side dish to pass. A small auction and a jar for donations raised money to cover the cost.
On Monday, July 11, 2011’s City Council consent agenda is a plan to contract with Parkmobile to allow a person parking in Downtown Ferndale to use their cell phones to pay for their spots instead of having to fumble for quarters to feed the meter.
“Every team takes on a collaborative personality,” Ryan said. “This team of all the teams I remember has required the least training and direction. They banded together from the beginning and I admire their long term vision.”

On June 27, 2011, Affirmations announced the selection of its next Executive Director, Antonio David Garcia. Garcia, who currently serves as the Executive Director at the Kalamazoo Gay and Lesbian Resource Center, will take over for Interim CEO Kevin Howley and starts his position August 15th.
These wonderful people saw a problem, rolled up their sleeves and solved the problem. Where else but in Ferndale? Where else would you see such support? This is so Ferndale….I am humbled, thankful and absolutely awed.
