Registration Open for Spring Soccer

Spring is in the air and Ferndale Recreation is ready to launch one of it’s most popular team activities, soccer! The Little Kickers league is for toddlers through three years old. Then there are teams for Under 6, Under 8, and Under 10. The coaches and referees are volunteers, mainly parents.

Dave Coulter was sworn in as the 17th Mayor of the City of Ferndale at the City Council meeting of Feb. 14, 2011. He was surrounded by supporters from throughout the community, including previous Mayors Pamela McCullough (1994-1996), Charles (Chuck) Goedert (1996-2002), Robert (Bob) Porter (2002-2008), Craig Covey (2008-2010), and Kate Baker who served as Mayor Pro Tem during the weeks following Covey’s resignation.

Police Report: Fleeing and Alluding

On Friday 02/11/11 at approximately 4:15 p.m. a Ferndale officer made a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer for defective equipment. The Explorer was driven by BRANDON LAMAR WILLIAMS (b/m, 19, Detroit resident) who had two passengers with him (a 19 and a 22 year old man). As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed from the area of 9 Mile and Romeo.

Music, Art & Love at AJs Café

The paintings on the wall at AJ’s Café through the month of February don’t stand out as Valentine-specific, however the details put into them by artist Karianne Spens-Hanna, and the story of how her work got there, is enough to give visitors to the café the warm fuzzy feelings of love.

Legal Observer Training…

On Feb. 12, 2011 the NLG hosted a Legal Observer Training class at the Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. Law students and citizens from around SE Michigan, including several from Ferndale, learned the ins and outs of this important volunteer job.

Women in Black March Through Ferndale

The weather was crisp but sunny as two dozen activists – known as Women in Black Detroit – gathered in front of The Ferndale Public Library to organize for a silent march through Downtown Ferndale to bring attention to war and violence supported by America in other parts of the world.
