Film Festival rolls out Red Carpet – Nov. 4-7

The Ferndale Film Festival is rolling out the red carpet for filmmakers in its second year, celebrating independent film with screenings of a catalog of films including features, shorts, and documentaries from Australia, England, Germany, Canada, and the United States at diverse locations all over Ferndale. Thursday, November 4th marks opening night at the Magic Bag Theatre and the awards ceremony and final screening rounds up the weekend on Sunday November 7th.

Waggs & Wishes Pet Picks for Nov. 1, 2010

Waggs and Wishes Animal Rescue, located at 521 E. Cambourne, has many dogs and cats that need fostering and/or permanent adoption. The organization stepped up in 2010 after the City eliminated animal control services, and has been saving lives ever since. Complete Streets Ordinance Passed

Ferndale City Council passed an ordinance on Oct. 25, 2010 that requires Complete Streets planning for the City. According to the Ordinance introduction memo, “Complete Streets is a best practice with growing national and state support that calls for cities to rethink how they design or redesign road infrastructure projects to accommodate all users, not just cars.

Affirmations Steps Back

An era of growth and expansion has come to a halt at Affirmations, where new leadership has taken a look at the organization’s books and greatly reduced the hours that the doors of the recently-constructed community center will be open to serve the public, and the scope of services they will be able to provide, for at least the next year while the organization regroups.

More Charter Change Information Now Available Thanks to CFF Forum

The forum, held Oct. 23, 2010 at the Ferndale Public Library, gave representatives from each side of the issue an opportunity to present their sides. Citizens for a More Responsive City Government is a group of residents organized to encourage voters to support the change. Approximately 90 residents have formally and publically committed to voting “yes” on the change. They were represented by Councilperson Scott Galloway at the forum. Tom Gagne, who led the petition drive to repeal the change when Council approved it earlier this year, spoke on behalf of those opposed.
