Nail Necessities: Lessons from a First Time Manicure

Rouge offers manicures and pedicures, which include plenty of pampering and care. They also have gift certificates. Appointments can be made for individuals, or groups can come in for small pedicure parties. There is also make-up by Eve Organics, eyebrow tweezing, and jewelry available for sale.

Wrap Up Your Holiday Shopping w/ Merry Midnight Madness!

Downtown Ferndale businesses will be open late this Third Thursday, December 15 for Merry Midnight Madness. Take advantage of the late night shopping opportunity by taking advantage of the coupons below. In addition to late night shopping, gift givers can have their purchases wrapped by the Relay-for-Life team, stationed at Rosie O’Grady’s.

Ms. Jillean & Joe Reilly, Winter Solstice at FPL

Parents and kids have been clamoring for Reilly to come back and on Tuesday, Dec. 20, their wish will come true. To celebrate winter, Reilly and the Ferndale Public Library’s Head of Youth Services, Jillean McCommons (better known to the kids as Ms. Jillean) will host a night of music, stories, crafts and snacks. No registration is required and all ages are welcome.

Council Votes to Oppose Redistricting Bill

Therefore Be it Resolved that this City Council in the strongest terms vigorously opposes this last minute partisan attempt to impose new state rules on our county that removes local control, negates the actions of county voters, forces a new system of redistricting without our consent and places the ability of drawing new county commission lines in the very hands of the current sitting majority county commissioners which is unfair, unethical, and possibly illegal, and we call on the Michigan Senate and the Governor of the State of Michigan to oppose this bill.”

Traffic Study Done, Recommendations Presented & Accepted

TIA presented the results of those studies, along with others for Nine and Woodward and also West Nine Mile, at the Dec. 12, 2011 City Council Meeting. Based on TIA’s findings, the DDA is recommending the following:

Fewer Polling Places to Save the City Money

Ferndale City Clerk Cherilynn Tallman presented a plan to City Council on Dec. 12, 2011 which will save the city money by reducing the number of precincts from 9 to 7. This falls within the rules established by Michigan Election Law. Tallman explained the process, the benefits and the results in a request for Council action, which reads:

SMART Bus Changes May Affect Ferndale Travelers

SMART Bus riders face shortened routes and hours of operation for several routes due to budget cuts in the public transportation system. Those who take the 450/460 routes on Woodward Avenue will no longer be able to use SMART to travel into Detroit except during peak hours. Peak hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The route also does not go into Detroit on Saturdays and Sundays. Instead riders will have to transfer to DDOT (Detroit Department of Transportation) busses at the State Fair Grounds transfer center.
