the Kulick Community Center has been opened as a public cooling center for Tuesday, July 16th between the hours of 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Wednesday, July 17th between the hours of 9:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The Kulick Community Center is located at 1201 Livernois, Ferndale MI 48220. Oak Park Votes to Allow Beer and Wine in Restaurants

The ordinance also includes multiple “review procedures” and “review factors.” including zoning requirements, certification by the director of public safety that the Licensee is of “good moral character,” input from readers and surrounding business owners, the number of similar Licenses in the city, size of bar area, and “overall benefit of the plan to the City of Oak Park.”

Rock for Books Library Benefit August 3rd

The library’s tax revenues have decreased by $300,000 since 2009. Determined not to cut hours or staff, the library is stepping up fundraising efforts to make up for lost property tax revenue. The library hopes you will come and Rock for Books on August 3rd at the Loving Touch!

Are You Ready for the Pub Crawl ~ July 26

The premise is simple. People meet at Boogie Fever and get a wrist band and a color-coded itinerary. Groups of 20-50 are sent out with each headed to a different location to start. Then they follow their lists, switching spots every 20 minutes or so for a new party experience. Check in runs any time between 6:30pm and 9pm at Boogie Fever.

Higher Student Loan Rates Stay

…she’d hoped to be able to get enough support for a bill that would roll back student loan interest rates from 6.8% to 3.4%. But the vote never happened, as it was blocked by a Republican filibuster. With 60 votes needed to break the filibuster, a total of 51-49 was as close as Democrats finally came.

Food Truck Rally Graces Downtown Ferndale

Tacos and BBQ were among the selections that drew crowds to the corner of 9 and Woodward. Michael McShane snapped pictures for the 115, and a delicious time was had by all.

The Ferndale Public Library’s Summer Concert Series continues with a performance by Obed Succari on Tuesday, July 16 at 6:30pm. Succari will play Latin and World music in the library’s community room for this free, all ages event.
