23233 Woodward has a new, but temporary, tenant. The building is the Oakland County Headquarters for the Art is for Everyone Campaign, whose goal is to encourage support of the Aug. 7th ballot proposal to provide taxpayer support for the Detroit Institute of Arts. The millage will cost the owner of a $150,000 home about $15 a year, and the money will be used to operate the museum and its programming.

The community is in mourning as news spreads that Donald Gattes, a longtime member of the Department of Public Works, passed away on Sunday in a medical crisis that Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan says was most likely a heart attack.

Since 1931 the Ferndale Garden Club has been connecting people through the love of horticulture. The long-standing group met on July 28 for a membership drive meet and greet, and they will be busy again on August 4 as they host their annual Plant Exchange.

Sudol, who moved to Ferndale from Clinton Township two years ago, always knew that she wanted to help people and feel good about her work. She went to Western Michigan University for pre-med, but an Alternative Spring Break in Colorado sent her on a slightly different course.

According to Southeast Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority, Ferndale’s rate of recycling increased to 9.03% from last years’ 8.55%. Huntington Woods residents had the highest rate, with 21.87%.
