Considering the number of establishments that sell alcohol or tobacco, investigations have demonstrated that there relatively few violations. However, the police department plans to continue to use investigations and enforcement action to achieve an ongoing compliance rate of 100%.

Ferndale PD Gives Away Gun Locks for Safety

Some Ferndale residents own guns, and the Ferndale Police would prefer it if those guns were stored safely. That’s why they have partnered with Project Child Safe to provide free gun locks to residents who request them.

The locks have been provided to the department though Project Child Safe at no cost to the department, according to Sgt. Barron Brown. The program began several years ago, but the department has not given away very many, most likely because the public hasn’t been aware of it.

In April 2013 there is a National Conference for Media Reform in Denver, where advocates for ethical journalism will gather to learn about issues affecting our profession. I am hoping to raise enough money to go to this conference, and bring whatever I learn back to Michigan, and to Ferndale.

Ferndale Schools Extravaganza is Jan. 26

The Extravaganza is an annual event that showcases many of the great things accomplished in Ferndale Schools, at all grade levels. There is a massive all-city concert with bands and choirs of all schools. Plus there is a fair where students showcase their work, and education-related nonprofits share what they do for the youth of the community.

…plenty of coal-powered plants remain. You can see some of them just by driving up M-29 from Algonac to Port Huron, where the St. Clair River makes it easy to deliver coal by barge.

Mountaintop removal may not seem like a local problem. It is certainly not the same acute problem for us that it is for someone living in West Virginia. Since some of our electricity is coming from coal mined by that process, then mountaintop removal is our problem, too

Home Invasion Confession

When he committed the Ferndale Home Invasion, ONEIL was on bond and awaiting sentencing for another home invasion he committed in Detroit; he was sentenced on the Detroit crime on November 6, 2012.

Detectives interviewed ONEAL after he met with his probation officer on 01/10/13. He confessed to the Home Invasion on Edgewood.

Helaine Zack Swears In…

Zack is now representing Huntington Woods, part of Oak Park, Royal Oak Township, Hazel Park and Ferndale.

Downtown Parking System Plans Proceed

People who park in Downtown Ferndale will notice some changes in the next month and a half, including possible increases in parking fees and the removal of individual parking meters from the street and city lots, with central payment centers installed and waiting to go online.

The changes are part of a long-term parking plan created by the DDA and the City of Ferndale to help raise money for more parking, most likely in the form of a parking structure. Over the past few years, the DDA and the City have taken several steps to make the parking system more profitable so that money can be set aside for improvements and growth.

Fourth Mondays are Blu-Ray Film Nights at Ferndale Public Library

Admission, popcorn and soft drinks are free, and all are welcome.

Future titles include: Yellow Submarine (February 25), Blade Runner (March 25), The Wrong Man (April 22) and Harold and Maude (May 27). All films will be shown in Blu-ray with surround sound. A copy of each film will be given away after the viewing.
