Home Invasion Confession

January 13th 2013

When he committed the Ferndale Home Invasion, ONEIL was on bond and awaiting sentencing for another home invasion he committed in Detroit; he was sentenced on the Detroit crime on November 6, 2012.

Detectives interviewed ONEAL after he met with his probation officer on 01/10/13. He confessed to the Home Invasion on Edgewood.

Downtown Parking System Plans Proceed

People who park in Downtown Ferndale will notice some changes in the next month and a half, including possible increases in parking fees and the removal of individual parking meters from the street and city lots, with central payment centers installed and waiting to go online.

The changes are part of a long-term parking plan created by the DDA and the City of Ferndale to help raise money for more parking, most likely in the form of a parking structure. Over the past few years, the DDA and the City have taken several steps to make the parking system more profitable so that money can be set aside for improvements and growth.

Fourth Mondays are Blu-Ray Film Nights at Ferndale Public Library

Admission, popcorn and soft drinks are free, and all are welcome.

Future titles include: Yellow Submarine (February 25), Blade Runner (March 25), The Wrong Man (April 22) and Harold and Maude (May 27). All films will be shown in Blu-ray with surround sound. A copy of each film will be given away after the viewing.

Police Raid House on College Street

A house on College Street, known to neighbors by the large hip hop posters on the front porch and the steady stream of briefly-staying visitors, was the target of a raid by Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), on Jan. 9, 2013.

Superintendent Takes Back Controversial Contract Cancellation:

After expecting the contract with ICE to end before Jan. 1, The Ferndale School Board received another surprise from Superintendent Gary Meier. He changed his mind, and has announced, through a notice dated Dec. 30, 2012 and given to then Board-President Keith Warnick, that he rescinded his prior cancellation.

Dales Neighborhood Group Toasts 2013 Goals

At the Jan. 9 meeting, the Dales Group divided into three committees – Neighborhood Crime, Social Events and Physical Improvements. Each will organize ideas and actions that the whole group can be part of.

2013 School Board Sworn in, Jim O’Donnell Voted President

bubble_and_bark_ad_ferndale115Newcomer Jim O’Donnell was voted President of the Board by his fellow members. He was sworn in by Ferndale Mayor Dave Couter.

The other officers are the three experienced Board Members. Karen Twomey was selected Vice President. Chuck Moeser was selected Treasurer. And Nan Kerr-Mueller was selected Treasurer.
