Oct 2 – Ferndale Pride

Ferndale, MI – Ferndale Pride returns Saturday, Oct. 2, celebrating its 10th anniversary. The annual family friendly street fair runs from 1 to 10 p.m. and draws thousands of members of the LGBTQAI community to celebrate diversity and unity.

More than 180 vendors, as well as bands, disc jockeys and other performers, will converge on downtown Ferndale for the street fair. This year’s festival footprint includes West Nine Mile Road between Woodward and Livernois avenues and portions of Planavon and Allen streets near West Nine Mile.

Pre-festival events have been going on since late June. Fundraising efforts have made it possible for the event to remain free to the public.

The children’s area, sponsored by Blue Care Network of Michigan, will feature an area for kids to play and create art projects. The first 200 kids also will receive a toy.

In addition, Genisys Credit Union is sponsoring a rock-climbing wall. Mark McMillan of McMillan Behavioral Health and Addiction Services has planned three open discussion group meetings about the basics of a 12-step recovery program and other tools to help manage, reduce or stop out-of-control behavior with alcohol and other drugs or other behavior, including sex or technology. Meetings will start at 2:00, 4:00 and 6 p.m.

The Thots&Prayers/Green Buddha DJ/dance stage will kick off with weddings starting at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from Ferndale Pride benefit Affirmations, Ferndale Community Foundation, Gender Identity Network, Matrix Human Services MAC Health, TGDetroit and Transgender Michigan.
