Fire Destroys Townhomes in Royal Oak Township

Royal Oak Township, MI – A fire Wednesday on S. Hart Place destroyed townhomes in Royal Oak Township Wednesday, leaving a resident injured with burns.

Ferndale Fire Department provides service to Royal Oak Township.  According to Ferndale Fire Chief Theresa Robinson, the crew was “Dispatched to a structure fire just before 4:00am on Wednesday, September 1.  One townhome was on fire with large amount of fire visible at time of Fire Department arrival.  Fire spread across the building’s common attic and impacted four other townhomes.  Ferndale Fire Department was assisted by Hazel Park, Madison Heights, and Southfield Fire Departments.  Fire was brought under control quickly through great work by crews on scene.  There were civilian injuries with one individual sustaining some burns. No firefighters were injured.  The cause is still  under investigation.”

UPDATE – Sept. 2, 3:25pm

Oaklnad County Sheriff’s Office released the following information about the fire:


The Ferndale Fire Department requested the assistance of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigations Unit for a residential structure fire in the 21000 block of S Hart. A male resident of Royal Oak Township was injured with 2nd degree burns and was conveyed to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. A female resident of Royal Oak Township suffered from smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital for further treatment and she is listed in stable condition. 


OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: An OCSO fire investigator responded to the scene for a cause and origin investigation. The structure is compromised at this time and will remain under investigation.
