Sept. 12 – Oak Hill Cemetery Walk Returns to Pontiac

Pontiac, MI – One of the most anticipated events of the year has a date! Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 12 as the Cemetery Walk at Pontiac’s historic Oak Hill Cemetery returns once more. Walking tours will be running starting at 2:00 p.m. and the last one will begin a few minutes before 5:00. This year’s spotlight is on the Great Migration, which transformed our region as thousands of families came to Pontiac, Detroit, Flint and beyond for booming automotive job opportunities.

Among those participating is James McQueen, who portrayed Oakland County’s first Black attorney Oliver Green during last year’s Oak Hill Cemetery Walk. Oliver Green is buried at Pontiac’s Oak Hill Cemetery, but never has never had a headstone; our organization is partnering with community members in raising funds to honor this late trailblazer’s legacy.

Oak Hill Cemetery is located at 216 University Drive.

Contact Oakland County’s Historical Society at office@ocphs.org or call (248) 338-6732 for questions and assistance with ticket purchases.
