Project to Convert Convent Space Could Earn Matching Grant Funds

Farmington Hills, MI – CARES is in the running for thousands of grant dollars through A Community Thrives, a grant and crowdfunding program hosted by USA Today and the Gannett Foundation.
The nonprofit, which operates a food pantry and Busch’s CARES Market, plans to remodel a former convent on its campus to create a home for:

The building needs wider entrances and doorways, a wheelchair ramp, ADA compliant restrooms, and an ADA lift for the stairs, as well as carpeting and a fresh coat of paint.
Director Todd Lipa estimates the project cost at $75,000-$100,000.

CARES will keep all the funds raised and must meet a $3,000 minimum by 12 p.m. on August 13 to qualify for additional grant dollars.
