Ferndale, MI – A stretch of Wanda was closed off Wednesday morning between 8 Mile and 9 Mile in Ferndale as a HAZMAT team investigated a report of a potential leak at Gage Products Company at 821 Wanda.
Ferndale Fire Chief Teresa Robinson told Oakland County Times “There was a shipment being delivered and they thought when they were filling the tanks that there was a malfunction that occurred. They thought that the tank was damaged so they evacuated for safety.
“We got here quickly and were able to mitigate everything very quickly. We did activate our HAZMAT team, and they were able to get inside and shut off the tank. There were no hazards. There was no hydrogen loss from the tank, but we are taking the proper precautions.”
Employees that had been evacuated were able to return to work safely and the road was open in under two hours from the 9:30am call. The HAZMAT Team included Ferndale firefighters as well as those from West Bloomfield and Madison Heights.
