Reporter Food: Savvy Sliders
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 19, 2021)
Commerce Twp, Madison Heights, Troy, Southfield, MI – For today’s Reporter Food column we’re cheating a bit on our sponsor White Castle to check out the competition over at Savvy Sliders, which is a local chain with locations in Commerce Township, Troy, and Southfield with another in the works in Madison Heights.
For this tummy-filling mission I visited their Commerce Township location at 2163 N Pontiac Trail and ordered both the chicken and the beef varieties. Box #2 had two home-style famous fried chicken sliders topped with pickles, lettuce and mayo. They offer crinkle cut fries, onion chips, or the kind I had – sweet potato fries. And that came with a drink. Plus for the sake of thorough journalism I got the classic Angus beef slider, complete with pickle, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mayo and cheese.
While White Castle and Savvy Sliders both offer tasty little burgers, they are each yummy in their own way.
It’s totally okay for slider fans to like them both.
White Castle, the undisputed king of sliders for generations, has those warm, soft, comforting steamed buns and steam-grilled patties seasoned just right and topped with perfectly grilled onions and tangy pickles.
But Savvy Sliders are pretty darn good too. Savvy Slider aims to be a thicker burger with a hefty bun for holding their greasy good beef or crispy bites of fried chicken. They also have salads for those who are so inclined, as well as desserts like southern banana pudding and Oreo cheesecake.
Other slider options include spicy falafel, Atlantic fresh cod, and steakhouse rib eye. For more items and online ordering visit www.SavvySliders.com.
And of course remember to do some taste tests of your own with some White Castle as well.
