Reporter Food: 5-1 Diner in Oxford
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 29, 2021)
Oxford, MI – A few weeks ago (when there was still a bit of snow around the outdoor dining igloo), I had the chance to visit 5-1 Diner in Downtown Oxford.
I ordered the Sunrise Omelete which comes stuffed with chicken, spinach, tomatoes, and cream cheese and topped with Hollandaise sauce. This had a lot of flavors packed into one dish. This came with soft buttery hash browns and toast.
Other omelettes and skillets include the Meat Lovers, the Club, the Irish and more. From the griddle one can order french toast or pancakes with a variety of toppings like blueberry, banana walnut, peach, strawberry, and walnut. The menu also boasts homemade corned beef hash made with Wigley’s Corned Beef, green peppers, onions, and breakfast potatoes.
There’s even a menu with specially priced items for seniors.
5-1 Diner also serves lunch and dinner, which I hope to go back and try. Some promising items include Spaghetti with Meatballs, The Lone Ranger Burger, and the Stacked Ham and Swiss sandwich featuring shaved Dearborn Ham.
While I got my order to go, it was great to see the Oxford-themed murals and the giant “Nicole Loves Local Oxford” sign over the cash resister. And their website says “When you’re at the diner, you’re family!” It seemed like the type of place where people really feel that way.
5-1 Diner is located at 51 S Washington St suite A in Downtown Oxford. Learn more at www.5-1diner.com.
