March 29 – Oak Park Toastmasters 25th Anniversary Celebration Online

(Marian McClellan Oak Park Mayor)

I take personal pride in announcing that the Oak Park Toastmasters Club celebrates it’s 25th anniversary on March 29th. You are cordially invited to register for the (virtual) 25th anniversary celebration at www.OakPark.ToastmastersClubs.org.

Before joining the Oak Park Toastmasters Club when I ran for Mayor in the summer of 2011, I was terrified of public speaking for decades. I found out at my first meeting that I was not alone in my fear. At first, I was too afraid to volunteer, but took voluminous notes and read the membership magazines with great interest.

Then in 2014, I served as the keynote speaker for Wayne State University’s commencement ceremony! Over the years, I have learned – as stated in Toastmasters instructional materials – that you never totally overcome complete nervousness, but you utilize that awareness and learned skills to communicate in public forums. Oak Park Toastmasters Club #1547 was chartered on April 1, 1996 and has welcomed a diverse population of Oak Park and Metropolitan area individuals with disabilities, speech impediments, and those suffering from the devastating fear of public speaking. It certainly worked for me!

On behalf of Club 1547, I look forward to your participation.
