(Common Ground, Jan. 11, 2021)
Oakland County, MI – As the pandemic continues, so does the trauma and struggles that people in the community are experiencing daily. Now more than ever, support for trauma related experiences is in high demand. But how do we give that support while also keeping the community safe from spreading the virus? Starting in January of 2021, Common Ground will offer virtual support groups to work out this significant problem.
One of the virtual support groups that are available is the Domestic Violence Support Group. Domestic violence—also known as domestic abuse or intimate partner violence—can range from emotional/mental abuse, physical abuse, and/or sexual abuse. This can involve spouses, partners, roommates or family members. This 10-week support group is free of charge to women 18 years or older and it begins on January 7th from 6pm-8pm.
Another virtual support group that will be available virtually is the Growth and Healing Support Group. This free, 10-week empowerment group is open to girls between the ages of 13 and 19 who have experienced sexual abuse, childhood sexual abuse, date rape or incest. The group will begin on January 4th from 4pm-6pm.
Lastly, the Survivors of Homicide Loss Support Group will also be available virtually on January 9th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. This free, 10-week support group includes structured topics and guest speakers to provide support to those facing the loss of a loved one due to homicide.
