Oct. 1-Dec. 6 – Detroit Urban Craft Fair Happening Virtually

This year’s fair will be held virtually with the health and safety of our vendors, production team and shoppers in mind. We will again showcase more than 100 juried vendors selling a wide variety of handcrafted goods, each with a modern and clever approach to classic making over the course of 9 weeks, on both our social media feeds and the DUCF website.

This is the first virtual fair produced by the Handmade Detroit team, and everyone involved is enthusiastic and devoted to helping bring shoppers and makers together in this new way so we can still spend our time together celebrating handmade as best we can. DUCF kicks off October 1st and closes on December 6th, 2020, the originally scheduled last day of DUCF at The Masonic Temple.

Tuesdays – Sundays will be Vendor Showcases broken into a.m. and p.m. ‘takeovers’ on the Handmade Detroit social media pages. There you’ll find the opportunity to not only shop with our makers’ new work, but expand into a more magnified look into their creative worlds. Guests will have an up close view of their technique and quality, but unlike the speedy and bustling traditional DUCF, they’ll have a nuanced understanding of their crafty businesses, their history of making and all the wonderful steps and knowledge that goes into their work; the very gifts you select each year for your loved ones.

Mondays will be sponsor-hosted days, showcasing both our long-supporting and new sponsors. Sponsors will be bringing clever programming, looks into their 2020 work, their studios & businesses, and tutorials to get us in the mood of the season as the weeks move us from fall in Michigan to holiday celebrations. Our decision to host Michigan makers exclusively was important to not only support our region and spend our dollars locally, but to consider the efforts of shipping, delivering or pick up purchases safely and as efficiently as possible.

Throughout the DUCF timeline you’ll see familiar favorites incorporated into this virtual format. Tune in to find DJ Dave Lawson record streams, ‘Sentimental Sunday’ throwbacks of DUCF memories past, Craft parties hosted by familiar makers and local crafty businesses like A/R Workshop in Ferndale and POST Detroit, HD merch pack giveaways and much more!

DUCF official 2020 sponsors are:  Handmade Detroit, A/R Workshop, Arsenal Handicraft, Cool Critters, Detroit GT, ESP Detroit, Gooseneck Coffee Co, Mutual Adoration, POST Detroit, Rocket Printing, Sloe Gin Fizz, Subtle Design and Yelp.

We thank them for their support in the production of our event!

About Handmade Detroit:

Handmade Detroit was born in 2005 by five area crafters and is operated today by founders Carey Gustafson and Bethany Nixon. Together they are the creators and organizers of the Detroit Urban Craft Fair, a juried event held annually in the city of Detroit. HD has been promoting independent craft in Southeast Michigan for 15 years, establishing the annual DUCF in 2006. DUCF is Detroit’s first ‘indie’ craft fair and remains the largest in Michigan, attracting nearly 100,000 shoppers over the years, and surpassing $1,000,000 in sales supporting local craftspeople and businesses in metro Detroit in just the last 5 years.
