Sept. 2 – Red Cross Blood Drive in Farmington Hills

Sept. 2 – Red Cross Blood Drive in Farmington Hills

The American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive on Wednesday, September 2 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Costick Center, located at 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster in Farmington Hills. Please note: The Red Cross will conduct COVID antibody testing on all collected blood products and the results will be available within 7 to 10 days.

Red Cross officials are grateful for donors who continue to support the organization throughout the coronavirus pandemic. They have been able to meet immediate patient needs, but upcoming blood drives are essential to ensure a stable blood supply in the coming weeks. Blood donations are used for emergencies, trauma care, surgeries, and treatment of serious diseases.

Red Cross staff members follow the highest standards of safety and infection control.  In addition to standard procedures, additional precautions will be implemented at the blood drive:

Temperatures will be checked for all staff, volunteers, and donors before entering the blood drive.

If any staff, volunteer or donor has a temperature greater than 99.5°F they will not be able to donate or work at the blood drive.

Staff and volunteers will wear gloves throughout the entire blood drive, changing gloves often.

All staff, volunteers, and donors will be required to wear face masks or coverings at the blood drive in alignment with CDC public guidelines.

Hand sanitizer will be available at check-in, health history, and refreshment areas.

Blood donors will be asked to use hand sanitizer before and during the donation process.

Donor beds will be sanitized between every donor.

Common surfaces at the blood drive will be routinely disinfected.

The set up will allow for six feet distance between donor areas.

Only blood donors will be permitted at blood drives.

After check-in, donors will be asked to wait in a designated area or to wait in their car.

Donors may be asked for a phone number to be notified when it’s their turn.

To make an appointment to donate on September 2, register online at www.redcrossblood.org. Enter the sponsor code costickcenter and follow the instructions to set up an appointment time. Due to social distancing and sanitation protocols, the donation process will require at least 1.5 hours of your time. Please pack your patience and remember that patients at 43 area hospitals are depending on your donation.

Donors must be in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be 17 years of age or older. If a parent is present to fill out a permission form on the day of the blood drive, 16-year-olds will be allowed to donate blood.
