July 16 – Unpacking Ferndale’s New “Commitment to Antiracism” Virtual Mtg.

Ferndale,MI – July 16, 2020 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Join FIN, City Council Members, Mayor Piana, and members of the Ferndale Police Department to discuss the recent City Council Declaration of Commitment to Antiracism. We will examine the declaration, generate questions, and identify potential aspects of an implementation plan. After community discussion, we will be joined by members of the city and police department to hear some information on what comes next.

In advance of the event, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the declaration. We will specifically be focusing on the following sections:

That the City Manager’s office, with participation from the Ferndale Police and other departments as necessary, research and make recommendations to Council for creating a community advisory board for the Ferndale Police Department, as recommended by the 21st Century Community Policing model.

We will support community efforts to amplify issues and experiences of racism.

We will actively and authentically engage all members of the community, especially people of color who have been historically marginalized in nearly every American communities.

We will continue on-going racial equity training with the goal of reaching all mayor, city council leadership and staff.

We encourage racial equity training among all community partners, grantees, vendors and contractors.
