July 3 – Lawrence Street Gallery Re-Opening Reception

July 3 – Lawrence Street Gallery Re-Opening Reception

Ferndale, MI – Lawrence Street Gallery, located at 22620 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220 is planning to reopen on July 1 with an opening reception to be held July 3.  Here are the details and other updates from Laura W. Host, president of LSGallery

These have been unusual and sad times.  Since the gallery has been closed – on March 16 – its member artists have been creating – hoping that their new work would be in the gallery for viewing.  Our normal routines were changed – or stopped for the pandemic.  I don’t think anyone thought we would still be looking forward to working at our reopened gallery still in June.  It would seem that our “normal” would get even more complicated.  We mourn the people – family and friends and complete strangers – who have lost the battle against the covid virus.   We are all thankful for health and friendship and hope we all come out of this situation with more empathy toward others.  We also mourn the loss of friends and families’ jobs.    And just recently all the protests for the injustice of George Floyd’s murder have re-awakened us to the inequalities of life for some Americans.   It is sincerely our hope that all these events and situations have given us time to think about our basic rights, blessings and responsibilities.  We all struggle with life challenges and we need to stand together for changes for each other and try to heal.

It is our hope that we will reopen the gallery on Wed. July 1.    The work of 24 area member artists will be shown plus our featured show will be paintings and monoprints of Laura Whitesides Host as well as more of Arnold Berkman’s beautiful photos from his exhibit that was stopped early in March.   We hope to have an opening but also observe the current guidelines from our governor by asking everyone to wear masks and also limit to 10 people in the gallery at a time.  The members working will be wearing masks and keeping people 6 feet apart.  We will not be serving any food (for obvious reasons).  We will have masks at the gallery for guests and hand sanitizer and we also will be sanitizing the gallery regularly on a twice daily routine.   The opening reception will be held from 1 – 9 pm on Friday, July 3 to give visitors a bigger span of time to see our new work.  The Gallery will be closed on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday July 5.  We will reopen again on Wed. July 9 from 12 – 5 pm.

While these plans are not etched in stone – we hope that if you feel safe going out into the world – we will have a lot of beautiful art to see.  Maybe you’ll find something to perk up those walls that you have been looking at all the time spent indoors!
