Arts & Cultural Commission Launches Ferndale Art Census 2020
(FACC, June 14, 2020)
Ferndale, MI – The Ferndale Arts and Cultural Commission (FACC) announces the launch of the “Ferndale Art Census 2020” to connect the intersection points of the arts with business, government, and community. The “Ferndale Art Census 2020” will serve as a central artist database for the Ferndale and surrounding area.
“The Ferndale Arts and Cultural Commission is excited to launch several initiatives today. Today we launch a new website, a new logo, and the Ferndale Arts Census 2020,” said Mike Flores, the FACC Chairperson. “Over the last few months the commission has worked exhaustively to find ways to connect with the community. We know there are current and future community needs the FACC will support. For example, there are two projects in the pipeline from the city’s master plan to activate spaces with art, and the FACC will support these projects. The Ferndale Art Census 2020 will be a resource for identifying the projects’ artist.”
The Ferndale Art Census 2020 will serve as resource for any future projects and collaborations. Michelle Morisette, Commission Secretary, is developing a plan to connect artist with Ferndale businesses in exciting ways. The Commission will work closely with artist, businesses, and other organizations like the DDA as the plan further develops.
The Commission continues to meet during COVID-19 to achieve 2020 objectives. All members have contributed countless hours through virtual meetings, phone calls, and expertise. The website development and new logo were led by Commission member Gordie Morton, from The Gallery Society.
In addition, the FACC has been working closely with other cultural institutions like the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), and the Michigan Opera Theater (MOT) to collaborate on community engagement objectives. Recently the DIA named the FACC a DIA Community Leader, through this program the FACC was invited to provide feedback during a pilot of “DIA Live: Thursday at the Museum”.
“Today’s announcement is a catalyst to re-energize the Commission’s commitment of connecting the community through the arts,” Flores stated.
