May 9 – Garden Tool Sharpening/Repair Event in Hazel Park

Hazel Park, MI – In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the WEHP business coalition has moved it’s Annual Spring Garden Tool Sharpening and Repair event to an online format, Saturday May 9th 8:00am-12:00pm.

The program invites all Hazel Park residents to bring in up to 3 damaged, broken or dull, hand-operated, garden tools for free sharpening and repair. While there is no cost for this service, people are encouraged to donate to the Jardon Vocational School, located at 2200 Woodward Heights, which works with  special needs’ children and adults. Donations accepted through the WEHP website. For a fee, residents of neighboring communities are welcome to bring in their garden tools with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit Jardon.

This year’s program features a live performance by well-known local guitarist Sean Blackman with two solo guitar sets, 8:30am-9:00am and 10:30am-11:00am. Jardon Vocational School, Hazel Park Neighborhood Enrichment, the Merrill Street Community Garden and the Hazel Park Library Seed Bank, as well as other civic, business and community groups, will each speak about their programs and how to get involved and support these groups who contribute so much to the vitality of the city.

New this year, WEHP is excited to team up with the Anhelo Anhelo Gallery to promote the “Marigold Project.” The gallery will be distributing seeds to volunteers willing to grow Marigolds to be harvested for a fall community-wide art project. For more information on how to get seeds and be part of this festive art happening, go to WEhazelpark.com.

We want to acknowledge and thank our sponsors Richard Gage Design Studio, Hazel Park Enrichment, Drifter Coffee and Tony’s Ace Hardware who generously provided support but due to restrictions are unable to fully participate as planned. Keep these and all of our business community in your thoughts and when normal business can resume, we encourage everyone to shop local.
