Jan. 20 – Walled Lake Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The Walled Lake Consolidated School District invites the community to the 22stannual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at Walled Lake Northern High School (6000 Bogie Lake Road, Commerce, MI 48382) starting at 5 p.m.

The evening’s events will include a Multicultural Dinner complete with ethnic food from around the world prepared by different local restaurants and an exhibition of student art work from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Jay Marks, educator and Diversity and Equity Consultant with Oakland Schools. Dr. Marks will speak about this year’s theme “Look Within: Be the Change You Wish to See in the World”.

The program will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will also include performances by student choirs, presentations by several students about their “Express Yourself” projects, and recognition of this year’s Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award recipients.

This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration is made possible thanks to generous donations from the PTA/PTSA groups from across our district, DTE Energy, the Walled Lake School Administrators Association, the Walled Lake Schools Federal Credit Union, and the Meemic Insurance Company.

This event is free and open to the entire community to attend. Donations of canned food, boxed food, laundry detergent, and household paper products for the Hospitality House Food Pantry will be accepted.
