Shop Small: Downtown Ferndale Deals and Fun Through the Season
Ferndale, MI- The Ferndale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has kicked off its Frosty Ferndale campaign for the holiday season. The festivities began on Fri., Nov. 22 as the city holiday lights were activated at 7 p.m. including a holiday pride fence light display near West Troy Street. Be sure to stop by to get a selfie at the #pridefence in #downtownferndale.
Small Business Saturday is just around the corner on Sat., Nov. 30, and Downtown Ferndale is ready for shoppers. Parking in Downtown Ferndale will be free all day courtesy of the City of Ferndale. Begin the festivities to #ShopSmall at the Welcome Center, hosted at The Rust Belt Market, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pick up free swag and a $5 bill from Level One Bank (for the first 200 guests) to get your shopping off to the right start. At the Welcome Center, be sure to enter to win the door prizes, supported by donations from local Downtown Ferndale businesses. For every $25 spent at participating Downtown Ferndale businesses, shoppers will receive one entry into the drawing. Simply show your receipts to attendants at the Welcome Center to be entered to win.
“We are thrilled to offer such a robust Small Business Saturday experience in Downtown Ferndale,” said Lena Stevens, Executive Director of the Ferndale DDA. “This day is about celebrating and patronizing the businesses who make our city the unique destination it is year-round.”
Inside The Rust Belt Market be sure to catch the special event, Ditch the Mall, Shop Small!, a weekend show (Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1) featuring approximately 20 guest vendors. The Ferndale Community Concert Band will also be playing from 12 to 12:45 p.m. in front of The Rust Belt Market as well as strolling around town on Small Business Saturday promoting their upcoming Holiday Concert. This year’s Holiday Ice, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is sure to be magical with a theme of “Food and Fairy Tales”. There will be 40+ ice sculptures throughout Ferndale with live carvings taking place at Como’s Restaurant, Candle Wick Shoppe, and Schiffer Park.
An entrance not to be missed, Santa Claus will be arriving at the North Pole by Firetruck at 10 a.m. Free photos will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. and resume again from 2 to 4 p.m. Join Santa for lunch at Rosie O’Grady’s from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Ensuring the meal is merry and bright, the Ferndale Community Concert Band will be playing live holiday music. After lunch, Santa will return to the North Pole.

Don’t miss Mr. Peanut and his Planter NUTmobile rolling into Downtown Ferndale at noon. Photos and tours of the NUTmobile will be available until 2 p.m. For those who have special lists to deliver to the North Pole, this heated tent, will be running activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. including Urban Hayrides beginning at 10:30 a.m.
