Nov. 25 – Madison Heights Tree Lighting

In keeping with their motto, “No child without a Christmas”, the Madison Heights Goodfellows are preparing for their annual distribution of food, clothing and toys for needy children and their families during this Christmas Season.

With the depressed local economy and demands on social services in the community at an all-time high, the all-volunteer organization has scheduled a number of fundraising activities.  The support of the community is desperately needed to help meet what is expected to be increased requests for assistance during the upcoming holiday season.  During the 2018 Holiday Season the Madison Heights Goodfellows served 110 families which included 289 children.  The community is encouraged to support and participate in the several upcoming fundraising activities.  The schedule of events for the Goodfellows is as follows:

November 25, 2019   At this year’s Madison Heights Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony donations of non-perishable food items that will be accepted from residents and guests.  Food collected will be used by the Goodfellows in their holiday food distribution programs.

November 30, 2019   The Goodfellows Annual Newspaper Sale will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Goodfellow volunteers, working side by side with members of the Madison Heights Lions Club and other civic organizations, will be stationed at major intersections throughout the City and will be selling a special edition of the Madison/Park News.  Volunteers willing to help should arrive at the Venetian club on John R Road by 8:30 a.m. for their assignments.

November 30, 2019   Beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. Augie’s Lounge at 31660 John R Road will once again sponsor a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for the Madison Heights Goodfellows.  There will be entertainment all evening and a silent auction will be held. Tickets for the dinner cost $10/person.  Everyone is invited to stop in for fun, food and refreshments.  All monies raised will be donated to the Goodfellows.

Earlier in the day from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Augies will be hosting “Photos with Santa”. Bring your child to meet Santa and have their picture taken with him. Cost is a donation to the Goodfellows Charity.

Additionally during the holiday season children who will be aided by the Goodfellows this year will have a chance to “Shop with a Hero” when members of the Madison Heights Police and Fire Departments will have help youngsters to pick out Christmas gifts for themselves.

The Madison Heights Goodfellows, incorporated in 1985 as a non-profit Michigan corporation, provides assistance to residents of the community with immediate needs.  Their focus during the holiday season is to assure there is “No Child without a Christmas”.  These efforts have provided food, clothing, shoes and toys for thousands of Madison Heights families throughout the years … all made possible by the generous donations from residents and local businesses and the hard work of many volunteers.

The Goodfellows are asking everyone to mark their calendars for these special events and to join us in sharing with those in need of help this Christmas season.  100% of proceeds from these fundraising events will be used to provide assistance to needy children and their families.  Food items, financial assistance or items for the Augie’s silent auction can be donated to the Goodfellows by calling their help line, (248) 837-2779 and someone will arrange to assist you with your donation.  The Goodfellows kindly invite everyone to join us in sharing good cheer with others during the upcoming holiday season.
