Explore: Stage Nature Center in Troy
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 25, 2019)
Troy, MI- As the leaves started to turn earlier this month, I had the joy of checking out the Stage Nature Center in Troy. This 100 acre preserve includes a facility that has living animals like snakes and frogs, plus a menagerie of preserved animals on display. There’s also a little reading room full of books about nature, and a glass enclosure full of honeybees that’s sponsored by the Brookfield Academy in Troy.
Trails wind through the ever changing woods, and there’s a board in the center where guests write down the cool things they see. Owls, deer, ducks, chipmunks, and raccoons are among the creatures spotted among the varied trees and plant life. I happened upon a deer that was so used to people it didn’t mind me getting close for a picture.
The Stage Nature Center is located at 6685 Coolidge Hwy, Troy, MI 48098. Learn more at TroyNatureSociety.org.
