Sept. 25 – Learn How To Shift Toward a Zero Waste Lifestyle at the Ferndale Library

FERNDALE, MI — Ferndale residents eager to reduce waste and commit to making positive lifestyle choices can attend a “Zero Waste Meet-Up” on Wednesday evening, September 25, at the Ferndale Library. Attendees will hear an informational presentation by Rachel Engel, Ferndale resident, homesteader, and enthusiast for eco-friendly practices. Engel, who was integral in starting and facilitating FADL’s Seed Library, will focus on how shifts toward zero-waste can increase free time and benefit the environment by eliminating reliance on plastics.

Engel will also talk about zero waste meal recipes, using reusable containers, and how to effectively compost in any living situation. Attendees can also utilize this as a networking opportunity for information sharing, swapping ideas, and recommendations on how to stick to principles that reduce how much trash we wind up sending to landfills.

People adopt zero-waste lifestyles for several reasons, including conserving resources, reducing their climate impact, minimizing pollution, or for the economic factors of just not wasting food. Engel will talk about easy first steps for those who are just learning about, or just getting started on the path to “Zero-Waste.” Anyone interested is asked to register beforehand, online at
