Detroit, Berkley, MI – Detroit Police announced Tuesday that they had arrested 23 year old Lawrence James Davis who is accused of fatally beating 24-year-old Tyler Wingate after a traffic accident on July 22.

Wingate had grown up in the Berkley and Royal Oak communities, places where his death has hit the community hard. White ribbon tied on trees throughout the area are a sign of support for Wingate’s family.

Friends have organized a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help Wingate’s family with funeral expenses.

According to Detroit Police, Davis was found in an apartment in the 23500 block of W. Eight Mile Road, near Telegraph. He was arrested without incident and charged with open murder.
