Aug. 6. Election – Oxford Twp. Has Two Proposals on Ballot

Oxford Township, MI-  Voters in the Charter Township of Oxford have two proposals on the Aug. 6, 2019 ballot. Here is what they will be able to decide on:

Oxford Township Police Protection Millage

Shall the previously voted increase in the tax limitation on general ad valorem taxes of 3.9152 mills ($3.9152 per $1,000 of taxable value) for police protection and law enforcement services for the unincorporated portion of the Charter Township of Oxford, reduced by the required millage rollbacks, be increased and renewed at the original voted and approved 3.9152 mills ($3.9152 per $1,000 of taxable value) on all taxable property within the unincorporated portion of the Township, to be levied for five years, beginning December 2020 through December 2024 inclusive, for the purpose of contracting to provide police protection services and law enforcement services for the unincorporated portion of the Township?

This proposal is a renewal and increase of the rolled-back millage, which last resulted in a levy of 3.7939 mills, in order to return the millage and levy to the originally authorized 3.9152 mills which expires with the December 2019 tax levy.  If approved, the Township will collect from this levy in the first year (2020) approximately $3,170,066.00.

Parks and Recreation New Additional Millage

Shall the constitutional tax limitation on the amount of taxes upon all taxable property within the Charter Township of Oxford be increased by new additional millage of 1.0 mill (one dollar per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of ten (10) years, from 2020 through 2029, inclusive, for the purpose of operating, maintaining, purchasing and improving parks and recreational programs, sites, and facilities within the Township?

The previously authorized Parks and Recreation millage expires with the December 2019 tax levy.  If this proposal is approved and levied, it is estimated the Township will collect from this levy in the first year (2020) approximately $939,798.00, with a portion disbursed as provided by law to the Village of Oxford Downtown Development Authority.
