July 16 – Ferndale Library Courtyard Concert: Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club

July 16 – Ferndale Library Courtyard Concert: Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club

FERNDALE, MI- Local jazz vets in the Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club have prepared a special night of music for their hometown crowd, performing live in the Ferndale Library courtyard on Tuesday, July 16, at 6:30 pm. Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club brings the sounds of New Orleans street bands to every place they play; the ensemble combines strings, winds, and brass, with banjo, sax and trumpet, upright bass, and violin, providing frenetic horn lines, gritty guitar comping, or swooning and sweet string melodies. The ANPC evoke the festive spirit of New Orleans whenever they perform.

The Ferndale Library often transitions into being a concert venue for local artists, and the Summer Concert Series consistently draws the most music lovers. Artists like Joe Hertler, Ronny Tibbs, and the Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club, will be performing in the library courtyard, on Tuesday evenings this season – a unique musical series made possible by the Friends of the Ferndale Library.

The ANPC infuse a lot of character, pizazz, verve, and brio into their boisterous trad-jazz tunes, from rambunctious ditties to romantic slow dances, or celebratory bursts. Attendees of the July 16 Ferndale Library Summer Concert will enjoy a mix of jazz, folk, country and Americana with clarinets, saxophones, trombones, and vocals, along with brushes and washboards, Selmer-style guitars, the charming baritone booms of upright bass and tuba. This is music that seems old-timey but gets a contemporary kick, evoking juke joints, piano bars, and speakeasies.

The Ferndale Library Summer Concert Series is designed to be a family-friendly event for parents to bring the little ones to dance together in the grassy courtyard, with top-notch artists like ANPC. Bandleader Joshua James has promised some exclusive guest instrumentalists joining their set at the library, to make this an extra special and memorable evening.
