June 2 – Meet and Play with The Loaded Die Owners at Ferndale Library

FERNDALE, MI – Kyle Sweeney and Madison Reitzel, co-owners of the Loaded Die, are coming to the Ferndale Library to tell the story of their neighborhood game store on Sunday, June 2, at 2 pm. Over the last three years, since they set up shop inside The Rust Belt Market, Sweeney and Reitzel have been developing what they call “satellite libraries,” installing collections of their games inside breweries, taprooms, and gastropubs, to augment the social experience for downtown Ferndale and the Metro Detroit area–but now they’ll be inside an actual “library.”

Sweeney and Reitzel have been busy not only operating a retail space for board game fans, but coordinating events like weekly board game nights, euchre tournaments, and cornhole leagues. On June 2, it’s a chance to “meet & greet & play…” with the owners. Sweeney and Reitzel will talk about how a lifelong love of tabletop games led to this hybrid business, retailing and renting games, but also embracing a unique kind of social entrepreneurship by way of pop-up drop-in game nights that could draw more patrons to other regional businesses. Their website, theloadeddie.com, has a helpful search engine to explore their 700+ library of games.

But now it’s time that these “game librarians” came to a public library. Registration is required for 35 participants to meet The Loaded Die owners and then set down to 6 individual tables where participants can start playing games and enjoy some refreshments. It’s a fine way to spend a Spring afternoon: come to the Ferndale Library on June 2 and get to know the folks behind your friendly neighborhood Game Store, you might be competing against, or with the owners! Let’s have some fun!
