Trans/GNC Day of ARTivism at Affirmations in Ferndale March 23

Ferndale, MI – We are proud to announce the #REVIVAL of the trans/gender non-conforming DAY OF ARTIVISM!

Create art together, with live music, poetry, performed by TGNC artists. Self-care is radical, and our community deserves this platform for expression.

BY TRANS FOLX, FOR TRANS FOLX….and allies!

WHAT IS ARTIVISM?
Art combines with activism in many ways: 1.) challenges systems of oppression; 2.) rejuvenates the energy to thrive against these systems; 3.) strengthens community connections across oppressed groups and de-isolates; 4.) may aid in processing and healing wounds from traumas from operating within such systems; 5.) affirms personal agency through creation; 6.) recharges the movement for social justice.

We defy imposed limits, and honor our agency and existence with these pieces.

CURRENT EXHIBIT AT Affirmations
Exhibit: Transcend: Artivism Community Gallery

Pieces were created by our community in the Artivism workshop series led by TGNC facilitators who shared their art techniques, in creating blackout poetry, meditative drawing, mixed media, and written poetry. Curated by Andromeda Schmidt! Special thanks to our facilitators Robert Zurenko, Dean Nasreddine, Ashton Niedzwiecki, and Andromeda Schmidt.

Exciting news! TTB will be continuing these healing, creative spaces throughout 2019!

Sunday, March 23, 2019 from 3pm-7:30pm at Transcend the Binary (at Affirmations) 290 W. 9 Mile Road, Ferndale, MI 48220
