Ferndale, Holly, MI – Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and if you want to support local businesses that support the local journalism done here at Oakland County Times, this is this list for you.  Here’s a look at love in Downtown Ferndale and Downtown Holly.

FERNDALE

In Ferndale there is an abundance of dining options.  If you’re looking to support our sponsors, make your reservations at Howe’s Bayou, Dino’s Lounge, Rosie O’Grady’s, Pop’s for Italian, Detroit Fleat, M-Brew, One-Eyed Betty’s or White Castle.

Or just enjoy a nice cup of coffee at Chazzano.

For shopping, The Rust Belt Market is open Sunday from 11am to 6pm, featuring dozens of booths with handmade goods, art, found items and more.  Modern Natural Baby has a store full of things that parents might need, but for Valentine’s Day the most popular items have come from the giant wall of Jellycat stuffed animals.

Flowers and candles are Valentine’s Day essentials, and Downtown Ferndale has those covered.  Blumz by JR Designs has bouquets, balloons, chocolates, stuffed animals and more.  The Candlewick Shoppe is full of love and magic, as well as colorful collection of candles in different sizes, scents and affirmations.

Another relaxing choice is a gift certificate from Essential Massage, who offers more than just massage. There’s also acupuncture, cupping therapy, chair massage, reflexology, hot stone massage, Swedish massage and deep tissue massage.

It could also be relaxing to buy your love the gift of safety, with a gift certificate from J & D Auto in Oak Park. Who would not be delighted with a full service oil change, or a pair of fresh new windshield wipers?

Other practical gift ideas could be a new roof from Lakepointe Construction, a membership to the new co-working space Patchwork Collective, or a will (or other legal work) done by the attorneys at Galloway & Collens.

Though of course there is nothing like laughter to deepen the joy of a relationship. That’s why Go Comedy Improv Theater is hosting a Valentine’s Edition of All-Star showdown on Feb. 14.

For those who are really in love, a new house could make a great gift.  There are three Real Estate Agents who value our work here – Judy Palmer of ReMAX Showcase Homes, Jim Shaffer of Keller Williams, and Derrek Werenka of M-1 Realty.  They’re all great. Robertson Brothers Homes is also currently building new homes in the area.

And if things aren’t going so well, Schmidt & Long can help with family court issues. They do business law too.

HOLLY

For our readers in NW Oakland County, there are a few businesses that have been supporting local journalism who might have some Valentine’s Day ideas to suit your fancy.

For dinner, the historic Holly Hotel has a special Valentine’s Dinner running through the entire weekend.  Their dinners often sell out, but if they do you can always join the jovial crowd next door at Andy’s Place. Among the bar food favorites are burgers with creative toppings, brats, and cheesy tots.  Plus libations.

Blumz is the place for flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals and other tokens of affection.  Next door at Holly Antiques there are multiple booths with items that would make great gifts.  Old fashioned Valentines have a retro appeal, and vintage jewelry can be quite the conversation piece. An unusual find can make for a memorable gift.

Thanks to all the advertisers who make Oakland County Times happen!  Happy Valentine’s Day!
