The Faygo Book Author to Speak in Pleasant Ridge Jan. 24

The Faygo Book Author to Speak in Pleasant Ridge Jan. 24

(Kurt Metzger, Jan. 18, 2019)

Pleasant Ridge, MI- Many of us grew up touting our local soda/soft drink brands as the BEST! I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where the Barq’s brand was king. Red Creme Soda was my go-to beverage of choice, followed closely by Barq’s Root Beer.

When I arrived in Detroit in 1975, my allegiance quickly switched to Vernor’s and the entire range of Faygo products. While the Red Pop didn’t measure up to Red Creme Soda, there was Rock ‘n Rye and so much more.

For those of you who swear by Faygo, you WON’T WANT TO MISS THIS!

On January 24 from 7pm to 8pm at the Pleasant Ridge Community Center, Joe Grimm (one of my favorite writers and presenters) author of The Faygo Book, will share the social history of a company that has forged a bond with a city and its residents for more than a century.

The story of Faygo, Detroit’s beloved soda pop, begins over a hundred years ago with two Russian immigrant brothers who were looking to get out of the baking business. Author Joe Grimm mixes the ingredients of a successful beverage company confected in dicey times in a boom-and-bust town. The Faygo Book is the story of a pop, a people, and a place. These stories and facts will tickle the taste buds and memories of Detroiters and Faygo lovers everywhere. The Faygo Book is a 2019 Michigan Notable Book.

Joe told me that There WILL be a pop quiz.

In addition to having copies of this book for sale, he will also be bringing copies of “Coney Detroit,” the history of the Coney Island, featuring the Lafayette Coney vs. American Coney competition and so much more.
