Reporter Food: Charmoula Chicken Sandwich at Fly Trap
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 5, 2019)
Ferndale, MI – Time to catch up with some Ferndale restaurants in our quest to try as many restaurants in Oakland County as possible. One of my last meals of 2018 was visit to Fly Trap at 22950 Woodward.
A friend and I went for lunch, and she enjoyed a veggie rumble (made with eggs, spinach and other vegetables).
I had the Charmoula Chicken Sandwich, made with North African spiced chicken breast, Jack cheese, caramelized onion on grilled sourdough with a lemon and garlic aioli. This was an amazing combination of flavors, buttery with just the right amount of spice. We both got diced potatoes which were good as well. I liked drinking root beer from the bottle, while my friend had a much-needed coffee.
The Fly Trap has been open since 2004, and is always buzzing with customers. The atmosphere is eclectic, with details like a marbled countertop (actual marbles encased in glass) and unique salt and pepper shakers on each table. We were extra lucky because ours got swapped mid-meal. First there were kissing dogs in Christmas sweaters, which were replaced by a frowning pooch with it’s leg up and a nice red fire extinguisher for the pepper. Being right on Woodward Avenue provides for lots of car watching through the large windows, and the staff is always friendly.
Other menu items include Red Flannel Hash, Slacker Especial, Red Chili Salmon Burger, Howie’s Noodles and Fire-Breathing Dragon. Find out more about these items at their website http://www.theflytrapferndale.com
Fly Trap is located at 22950 Woodward.
