Wixom Police Warn Businesses of Tool Borrowing Scam
Wixom, MI- Public Safety Director Ron Moore issued a warning to Wixom area businesses regarding a recent scam.
“It has come to my attention that some crooks are attempting to commit fraud on unsuspecting business owners and representatives,” Moore said. “This is the essence of the scam. A thief enters your place of business and represents himself as being an employee of a nearby business, one with a name you would surely recognize. The crook tells you that his business is working on a large project and asks if he can borrow tools, supplies, or equipment to finish the job. You—wanting to be a good neighbor—loan the items to the thief. The thief leaves, and you never see your property again.
“Please do not fall for this. Please use diligence and confirm information before loaning out your property. And, please call the Wixom Police Department if we can be of assistance.”
