Reporter Food: Albanian Gluten Free Pizza From Renee’s Gourmet Pizzeria
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 5, 2018)
Troy, Southfield, MI- Renee’s Gourmet Pizzeria is a 100% gluten free and nut free restaurant with locations in Troy and Southfield. Renee’s was created in honor of the owner’s daughter Renee who has Celiac Disease and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. There are only a few such restaurants in Michigan.
Several readers suggested Renee’s so I decided to try the Albanian pizza at their Troy location. The dough is made with rice flour and it’s topped with lots of cheese. The Albanian has mozzarella, splashes of tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, roasted garlic, Kalamata olives and green pepper. The most notable thing about this pizza, to me, was the strength of the garlic. This is not some sprinkled on garlic powder, but some nice little bits that give bursts of flavor among the creamy cheese. I’m not sure that I could describe any difference between regular pizza crust and gluten free, and you certainly don’t need to have allergies in order to enjoy it.
They also have gluten and nut-free grilled wraps, pasta dishes and cakes.
