Eleven Year Old Shot Outside Party Store in Pontiac

Pontiac, MI- On November 26, 2018 at approximately 2213hrs Deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Joslyn Rd. for a reported shooting. Upon arriving, they were advised that an 11- year old male passenger had been shot in a vehicle in the parking lot of the party store after an altercation between one of the victim’s relatives and another male subject.
Prior to the incident, the victim’s relative and the Suspect were engaged in a verbal altercation inside of the party store. Once outside of the store, the Suspect produced a handgun and began firing rounds at the Subject based on their exchange within the party store. While shooting, an 11- year old male passenger of the Subject’s vehicle was struck in the leg by an errant round. The Suspect entered his vehicle and fled the scene. The 11 year old male victim was transported to a nearby hospital and was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower extremities and is listed in critical but stable condition. The Subject was unharmed in the incident.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Detectives were notified and immediately responded to continue the investigation. Through the investigation Detectives were able to obtain evidence to positively ID the Suspect. Once the Suspect’s address was obtained, Deputies arrived at the residence and found the responsible vehicle exiting the driveway and proceeding down the street. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the Driver. An unregistered .357 handgun was recovered from Driver, who was subsequently arrested. It was determined that neither the Driver nor the unregistered .357 handgun was involved in the shooting at the 900 block of Joslyn St. Deputies returned to the Suspect’s residence and found the responsible attempting to flee out of a rear window. Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, however it proved unsuccessful. The Suspect remained in the house along with a female resident and refused to cooperate with Deputies. The OCSO SWAT Team was activated and immediately responded to the scene. Through actions by SWAT Negotiators, the Suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the address. A .40 caliber handgun believed to be weapon used in the shooting was recovered and logged into evidence. The investigation continues.
