Madison Hts. Narrows Down City Manager Search, Final Interviews Nov. 8

Madison Heights officials have selected two finalists for the open City Manager position: Melissa Marsh and Khalfani Stephens.

Marsh is currently the acting City Manager, Finance Director/Treasurer of Madison Heights. Stephens is currently the Executive Director of the Development Authority of Clayton County, Georgia.

Marsh has 22 years of experience in local government, including the last 13 years serving in progressively more responsible positions in Madison Heights. Her responsibilities have weighed heavily on financial oversight, with additional work in such areas as project management and policy implementation. Her accomplishments include starting a strategic planning process, reigniting previously-stalled city projects and creating a citizen’s academy to foster community involvement. Marsh holds a Master of Accountancy from Walsh College and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Resources from Central Michigan University. She is also a Certified Manager through the ICMA and participates in many professional groups.

With ten years of experience working in municipalities, much of Stephens’ career has focused on budget management and economic development. His responsibilities have also included managing employees, strategizing marketing initiatives and collaborating with others to improve city visibility and attraction. Stevens holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Economic Development from Wayne State. He is also a Michigan Master Citizen Planner (Michigan State University) and currently serves on the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency Board of Directors.

Interviews for both candidates will be held on Thursday, November 8, in the City of Madison Heights Council Chambers. These interviews are open to the public.

An evening reception will follow the interviews, also to be hosted in the Council Chambers. The community will at that time have the opportunity to hear a short presentation from each candidate, mingle, ask informal questions, and give written feedback to Council.
