12 Year Old in South Lyon Charged After Threat to Shoot Up School

(Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Sept. 18, 2018)

South Lyon, MI- A Deputy assigned as the Lyon Township School Resource Officer (SRO) responded to the Centennial Middle School located in the 60000 block of 9 Mile Rd in the City of South Lyon for a threats report.  The SRO was informed by staff members of a threat to shoot up the school that had been made by one of the students during a 5th hour class.  The student made this threat in the presence of two other students and they notified their teacher.  The 12 year old student had stated that he would bring an AK-47 to the school on 9/18/18 and shoot it up.

 

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  The SRO met with school district representatives and completed the initial incident report.  The SRO spoke with staff members and interviewed all parties involved.  A Referee from Oakland County Juvenile Intake was contacted and authorized the juveniles’ detention at Oakland County Children’s Village for making the threats.  A hearing will be held tomorrow regarding this matter.  Detectives and the SRO will be continuing with the investigation.

 

ARRESTEE INFORMATION:  12 year old male, resident of the City of South Lyon.

 

Update: 

 

This afternoon the juvenile was charged by the OC Prosecutor’s Office with 1 count of a False Report of Terrorism which is a 20 year felony.

He was represented by an attorney and pled guilty in front of the Honorable Lisa Langton of the 6th Circuit Court Family Division.

 

A disposition hearing will be held in October, date to be determined.

 

He remains held at Children’s Village.
