Lathrup Village 65th Birthday Celebration Sept. 7-9

LATHRUP VILLAGE, MI – The city of Lathrup Village will hold its 65th Birthday Celebration the weekend of September 7 – 9, 2018, at the Municipal Park located behind Lathrup Village City Hall at 27400 Southfield Road.  All events are open to the public.

FRIDAY – SEPT. 7th, 11:30am – 1:00pm – Ladies in Leadership Luncheon. Panelists include: Mayor Mykale “Kelly” Garrett; Council Member Donna Stallings; Oakland County Commissioner Dr. Nancy Quarles; and Brenda Carter, Pontiac School Board Trustee. The moderator is media professional Karen Dumas. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door. “Lathrup Village began as a community with limited racial and ethnic access and opportunities, but has since grown into a city that exemplifies diversity and inclusion.” said Mayor Garrett.  Adding, “The city is a trendsetter both regionally and nationally as it relates to women in leadership roles. The ‘Women in Leadership Luncheon’ component is focused on celebrating local women leaders, while inspiring young girls to reach out for future leadership roles.”

“Lathrup Village was originated by Louise Lathrup as a small, yet robust community, with high quality homes in small neighborhood subdivisions,” said Lathrup Village Mayor Kelly Garrett. “Our business-friendly office hub is now a popular destination and the 65th Birthday Celebration represents an opportunity to spotlight its unique character and showcase our community.” And added element is concluding with a Suicide Prevention Vigil on Sunday, Sept. 8th at 7:00pm, in observance of Suicide Prevention Month.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 8TH, The event-filled weekend will feature a variety of family-fun related activities including live music, food trucks, children’s activities, bubble soccer, bouncers, community organization showcase, face painting, pony rides and petting zoo. The Southfield Fire Department is bringing their Fire Safety House. (Schedule attached) Some special highlights include:

9:00 am           Yoga in the Park with Mayor Kelly Garrett

12noon            Official Kick-off and Cake Cutting (presentation from elected officials)

12noon            Paint a Police Car

1:30pm            Bike Rodeo – hosted by Lathrup Village Police Dept.
